Rosh Hashanah - Jewish New Year
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year celebrated by blowing the shofar (ram's horn). The Holy Ark in the synagogue usually has a special curtain for this festival. The shofar is blown in the month of Elul preceding Rosh Hashanah in preparation for the festival. White is the color chosen for Rosh Hashanah and its containing period "The Days of Awe" to symbolize purification from sin.
