Three ladies (one preferred not to be photographed) were sitting at this entrance way to the Old City. They were offering the passing crowds celebrating Barmitzvahs at the Kotel the opportunity to do a good deed (Tzedaka). Have you ever wondered about their lives? The lady with the blue cup shared a vignette of her story with me. She had made Aliyah 13 years ago, but is still unable to communicate in Hebrew. She desperately wanted to be a contributing part of her new society and thank Hashem in a meaningful way for granting her the opportunity of being in Israel. So she undertook to support five families in financial need by regularly making herself available to accept donations on their behalf. May Israel be blessed with many more people like her.
